Wanted Good Second Hand Soccer Boots for Children in Sierra Leone

Wakehurst would like to support a great cause, 'Kanga Schools in Sierra Leone'. This charity recycles used text books, computers and sporting equipment to schools. All children in Sierra Leone love to play football, but very few have boots. Last year's donated boots were received with much enthusiasm when they arrived in December, however, more boots are needed.

Please donate any good second-hand football boots which will be sent to young people in this war torn region of West Africa. Drop off is at Hews Pde clubhouse on Friday nights between 6:30-8pm.

Your donations are very much appreciated.

Away Team Referees

In order to ensure consistency with the team referee requirements the EC has issued a change to the playing rules for the 2012 season.

If teams cannot mutually agree on a referee as per section E2 of the Playing Rules the AWAY team will be responsible for providing a referee.

This is a change from the previous requirement where the HOME team provided the referee. The away team referee rule includes all ages and division from sub-juniors upwards.

Ground Setup and Takedown Reminder

Intent: The basis of this rule is to keep the Clubs responsible for the provision of the nets, flags and other setup materials (tape etc) at the ground and the teams playing the first or last game on a field responsible for setup / takedown respectively.

Procedure:

The following applies to all competition teams (U11 to All Age, O35 and O45 teams).

At least 45 minutes before the start of the first game on a field, the Club who is allocated the field by the MWFA must deliver nets, flags and other necessary items for the setup of the field. These must be place at the centre of the field.

The teams who are playing the first game on the field on that day must each setup half the field, including the net in one goal and the flags for half a field. Any containers and other equipment must be stored near one of the goals. This must be completed at least ten minutes before the start of the game.

The teams who are playing on the last game on the field must each dismantle half a field and place the equipment in the containers provided in the middle of the field. Unless otherwise indicated this will be the 3pm game on any field. This includes corner flags and one net.

The Club must then come and pick up the equipment for storage as appropriate.

In order that there is no possibility for ambiguity, each team will be responsible for the setup or takedown of half a field. It is up to the individual teams to decide which half of the field they will setup/take down.

Punishment:

If a team fails to perform this function the following penalties will be imposed:

· On the first offence a formal warning will be issued by the MWFA. The Club of the offending team must provide proof the team has received the notice.

· On the second occasion, the team will lose one match point

· On the third occasion, the team will lose three match points

· On the fourth occasion, the team will be asked to provide reasons as to why they should not be removed from the competition.

If a Club fails to provide the necessary equipment for setting up a ground in the required timeframe there is a fine of $50 for the first offence and each subsequent offence will attract an additional $50 fine. This includes adequate materials to adhere nets to goalposts.

The imposition of these penalties is at the discretion of the MC.

Towards Coaching Excellence

Wakehurst FC is proud to announce the "Towards Coaching Excellence Programme" designed to recognise and encourage the Coaches at our club who strive towards improving themselves and therefore the quality of the coaching and direction they provide to their team and players. Specifically the programme aims to encourage :

- skills improvement through completion of the community pathway football licences - ie holding a current (completed in last 4 years) Junior, Youth or Senior licence - more information here : http://www.footballnsw.com.au/index.php?id=44

- demonstrated coaching track record which is consistent with WFC principles of fairness, fun and skills development. Eg received nominations for Coach of the year, been observed preparing for a match, or training session, parent or player feedback to a VP etc.

- demonstrated track record of successes during the season and/or significant player or team improvement over the course of a season.

- demonstrated track record of players returning following a season with the Coach.

Under the Programme, and based on the criteria outlined above, each WFC VP will be asked to nominate Coach candidates to receive a "Towards Coaching Excellence" award and Coaching kit, to include :

1. Additional bibs of different colour

2. Training poles in carry-bag.

3. Black WFC Polo shirt - embroidered with the word "Coach".

Coaches, up to a maximum of 8 per year, will then be awarded, announced on our website,  and allocated their kits.

As the programme title describes, our objective is to encourage and support an improving standard of coaching expertise and therefore, continual skills development for all players at our club.

Wakehurst FC All Age 1 Squad Players Needed

Our mens All Age 1 squad was newly formed this year to blend experienced PL standard WFC players with talented upcoming juniors to provide outstanding development opportunities for all. Pre-season form, as well as results in our first game have indicated that we will be more than competitive, however, we now find ourselves in need of a couple players that are proven, or keen to play at, this level, and to help us in our quest to really challenge for the flag in this competition. Experienced coaching staff and a friendly group of focused players will greet you - training is 7pm Tuesdays and Thursdays at Lionel Watts oval.

Please call Jeff Sheard, AA1 Head Coach on  0417 225 267.

Player Profile Kai Alagich

Player profiles are something that the club’s looking at expanding on in 2012 to give club members an insight into different players in different teams. We’ll be looking to put up a different interview every week, so stay posted on our Facebook to see who’s next!

It’s fitting that we profile speedster Kai Alagich, a member of our Wakehurst Premier League Squad for 2012 who talks to us about the teams goals for the season, the pressure of up and coming youth players and why he will always wear #3.

Q1: Premier League’s is getting stronger every year. What are the squad’s goals for this season and do you think you can overcome state champions Pittwater? This yeah we will be aiming for no less than top 4, make it to the final and to go as far as we can in the FA cup. We've shown in patches that we can match Pittwater, it’s more about doing it more consistently throughout the year, and putting away the lower teams.

Q2: This is Jurgo's 3rd year in charge. Tell us a bit about how he's transformed the squad over this time and what he's like as a coach. Jurgo’s inherited an ageing premier league squad, and each year he has done well to bring in a good number of young guys, whilst still keeping the core of the senior boys. Paul is definitely a man manager; he is all about positivity and getting the best out of you.

Q3: You spent your youth playing at Manly Utd. What made you want to come to the tigers after so many years? I’d just finished U18s and was pretty tired of rep football, and the head coach at the time Gary McGuinness had just agreed to coach Wakehurst PL's the following year. I was training with a mate at Strikers, Gary gave me a call, offered me a spot and that made my decision.

Q4: You're obviously part of a new guard at Wakehurst along with the likes of Changa, Russ, Nick Ball, Mike Ball and so forth. What's the most important balance to have in the squad? You obviously need the mix of old and new, guys who have played PL’s for a number of years, and the young guys to freshen up the squad. Paul has seemed to time bringing the young guys into PL’s very well, guys like Sammy and Changa (Mike Wood) spent time in Ressies before stepping up, and in the next couple of years there could easily be half the Ressies squad playing PL’s.

Q5: What’s your playing number and why? I will always wear number 3, no matter how much it costs me at shirt auction. I wear 3 because I used to love watching Roberto Carlos on the left.

Q6: Are the boys feeling the pressure to perform each year with the amount of talented division 1 teams coming through the youth system? I wouldn’t say there’s much pressure, more the fact that when they finally do finish up at PL level, we leave knowing that the squad is in a good position at the time and for many more years.

Q7: PL’s matchday is being transformed this year, the club has agreed to hire DJ's to play as goals are scored, as players walk out and so forth. What do you think of this, and how will it bring crowds back to Lionel? I think it’s a great idea. Something similar was introduced at Manly a while back, and it creates a kind of buzz around the team. Hopefully along with us playing good football it will make an atmosphere at Lionel that will get more juniors and people coming to watch.

Q8: What are your future ambitions with your football? Stay at PL’s for another 10 years or so, injuries permitting.

Q9: Favourite player and why? Ronaldo (Brazil)- deadly in the penalty box Zidane- the classiest player ever Messi- the best player of all time

Q10: Favourite team? AC Milan
